When 50 Gbit/s Is No Longer Enough: Optronis Unveils a New Performance Class in High-Speed Imaging

Hurricane-9 Celebrates a Successful VISION Debut – Growing Data Volumes and AI Applications Are Driving Up the Demands on Industrial Image Processing

With the debut of the Hurricane-9 at VISION 2026 in Stuttgart, Optronis has expanded its high-speed camera portfolio to include a new performance class. The camera combines 9.4 megapixels with 1,236 frames per second at full resolution and 100 Gbit/s CoaXPress-over-Fiber. The launch of the new platform was marked by a well-attended booth and numerous technical discussions.

VISION Shows a Trend Toward Greater Performance and AI
VISION 2026 highlighted two trends: Several vendors showcased camera technologies with higher data rates, while AI is increasingly being integrated into industrial inspection and automation solutions.
Both of these developments place greater demands on image data acquisition. Even powerful AI algorithms require precise, time-synchronized, and reliably transmitted image information. High resolution and frame rate alone are not enough when data transmission and system integration become the limiting factors.

Hurricane Pushes the Limits of Performance
With 100 Gbit/s CoaXPress-over-Fiber, Hurricane doubles the maximum transmission bandwidth compared to the previous 50 Gbit/s platforms in the Optronis portfolio. The Hurricane-9 achieves 1,236 fps at 4,096 × 2,304 pixels. Standard QSFP28 modules and features such as ROI, Dual ROI, line skipping, and image correction support integration into demanding machine vision systems.
“With Hurricane, we are expanding the possibilities of high-speed industrial imaging in areas where existing transmission bandwidths have reached their limits. For us, it’s not just the data rate that matters, but also reliable integration into industrial systems,” explains Dr. Patrick Summ, Managing Director of Optronis GmbH.

High-Speed Imaging Expertise for OEMs and Industry
Hurricane also exemplifies Optronis’ technological expertise as a specialist in high-speed imaging and custom OEM camera solutions. While CyclonePlus serves as the standard platform for new machine vision systems and CycloneFiber addresses optical transmission architectures, Hurricane expands the portfolio to include particularly data-intensive applications.
The positive response at VISION underscores the interest in the new platform. For Optronis, the key priority remains combining reliable high-speed imaging with flexible system integration and long-term industrial partnerships.
